We use the SumUp app as a point of sale to record transactions wherever possible. The app is essential for processing in-person card payments. Whether customers pay by card or cash, the app makes things easier for volunteer cashiers: no need to remember prices or do any mental maths. Just add items to a basket and let the app do the rest.
Recording all of our sales through the app is great for the PTA as well. The detailed reports we can download from SumUp help us to plan future events, and comparing our expected cash takings with our actual cash count keeps us accountable.
If you're willing to download the SumUp app on your own phone, let us know when you sign up for your volunteer shift. We'll send an email invite to join our SumUp team.
Torridon Tickets are our fair-wide currency, worth 50p each. We sell them at the Tickets & Raffle stall near the fair entrance (cash or card accepted) and at Prize Central in the Games area (card only).
Place used tickets in your stall’s collection bucket; we’ll count these after the fair.
If you're recording transactions in the SumUp app, process Torridon Ticket payments as cash.
We'll accept cash on the Tickets & Raffle stall, but the rest of the fair is cash-free. Limiting cash to a single till point reduces security risks and simplifies logistics and accounting. Please do not accept cash payments anywhere except the Tickets & Raffle stall.
Volunteers with the SumUp app on their phone can process contactless card payments using the Tap To Pay feature. See our SumUp guide here.
All stalls apart from games will have unique QR codes affixed to their collection bucket. Customers scan these codes to complete payment on their own phone. Volunteers should ask to see their confirmation page when they complete payment - it should say the stall name, correct payment amount, and a recent timestamp.
